Elizondo defeats England

FUCK!!! Fucketie fuck fuck!

Deep down, I still believed in England. That's what I found out tonight. To see them go out like that, to a TOTALLY ABSURD RED CARD that just didn't make any sense any way you slice it...well...it's too much.

FUCK!

This is the thing: instead of penalty shoot-outs, I think they should have a panel of judges keeping track of the game. Like in boxing. Tied game? Go to the judges after 120 minutes.

If they did that, England would be through. Instead. They go out to a totally absurd red card. FUCK!

No, here is the deal. England got booted out because their star players, the ones that they are supposed to be able to count on, lose games for them. I don't know enough about soccer to know if the red card was justified (I'm against the whole card system to begin with). But Rooney does - for gods sake this is what the guy does for a living. Its his job to know what stupid things could hurt his team and not do them. Yet he let his whole team down. Same with Beckham. I'm sorry, if you can't go the full 90 minutes consistantly you are not a top player. If you can't make big plays in big games when your team most needs you then you are not a top player. Thats why England may have lots of high salaried supposedly great players but when crunch time comes they just don't get it done.

The Argentinians can bitch that their coach lost with his best players on the bench. But in Englands case the best players took themselves out. You just can't do that. You have to be there for your team when they most need you.

I don't know either what the red card was for, we will have to see. So don't judge before knowing the official cause.

Furthermore, England played better with 10 players only, so the red card did not punish them that much anyways. Portugal won once more on penalties, they have Ricardo. England should put some practice in penalties, as they lost out on penalties for about the third time on penalties in a decade.

I liked this comment on the Guardian's minute-by-minute:

The pantomime villain Ronaldo wins it with an excellent penalty, to Robinson's left, and it's the same, same old story for England. Gerrard and Lampard took awful penalties, but there was big controvery over Jamie Carragher's miss. Lampard and Gerrard are motionless, broken, it's horrible and a little poignant. Rio is crying violently; fate has merked him, and it's harsh because, quietly, he had an excellent tournament. Ultimately, however, England found their level - the quarter-finals - and all the bluster and blame and bull****, particularly over Rooney's sending off, we will get over the next few days can't disguise it: that dullard idiot Eriksson has trousered £4m a year to do something that you or I could have done.

Well, football couldn't entirely save Rooney from his roots, and today he was handed an ASBO. I have no opinion on whether or not he deserved it, but he'll probably take less flak for it than the FOUR penalty blowers, and possibly even less then Beckham will get for having to leave the pitch so early.

I really had no passion whatsoever vested in this game, but I found that only the last five or so minutes of ordinary time, as well as almost all of the extra time was exciting. The rest was a strange game in which I think only one offisde was ever called.

As for Eriksson - us swedes don't really care about him any more, if we ever did.

makes no sense to me. The coach isn't the one who walked out on the game like Beckham or got thrown out like Rooney.

The card wasn't absurd. Rooney stepped on a player's testicles, and then tried to get violent with another player, WITH THE FUCKING REF STANDING NEXT TO HIM. Cristiano Ronaldo being a whiny crybaby doesn't justify Rooney's reaction at all. He got deservedly sent off.

Like Beckham in 1998, a star player's bratty antics left the team vulnerable and diminished and forced a penalty shootout that might not have been necessary if England had all 11 men on the field.

Rooney's Wikipedia entry dealt with a bit of vandalism yesterday. The phrase "Rooney is also the first Chav on the English team" kept popping up. After that match, who could disagree?

What the hell! Of course that red card is deserved! Check Wikipedia for God's sake:

"In the quarter-final match with Portugal, Rooney was sent off after an incident during the 62nd minute of the match. Rooney was struggling to gain proper control of the ball as he was involved in a tangle with Ricardo Carvalho and Armando Petit. As Rooney returned to his feet, he brought his left studs hard against Carvalho's groin. This appears to have been a deliberate stamp rather than an attempt to chase the ball because using his left foot in this way pivoted him away from the ball. The incident occurred right in front of Argentinian referee Horacio Elizondo. As play was stopped, Portugese player Cristiano Ronaldo, Rooney's Manchester United teammate, ran towards the referee and gesticulated towards his floored teammate. Rooney then pushed Ronaldo and was shown the red card for a combination of the incidents involoving Carvalho and Ronaldo[4]. He became only the third English player to be sent off while playing a match in a World Cup Finals."

F**k this pug faced thug plays with Ronaldo in MU and he pushes him! He deliberately kicked another player in the balls!
Compare that with the Portugal-Netherlands match and you see Deco chatting with the Dutch players when he was ousted.
