Ghana wins, to meet doom as a reward

Ghana won. The US is out. FIFA rankings are meaningless. And for its prize Ghana gets to play Brazil next round. Though perhaps for Brazil it might make sense to lose against Japan and meet Italy instead.... Seems that nobody can make much sense of Ghana and Brazil perhaps even less... This getting really fun!

PS: I will let Quico write the obit of the Czech

Lose to Japan to try to draw Italy? Sounds far-fetched to me...the Italians are too good.

One thing, though, is that this Mundial still hasn't had a good giant killing. Ghana beating Brazil would be jack-and-the-bean-stalk stuff. Fantastic.

Last note on Italy: today was the day for glorious subs. Both goals came off the bench. This is so important in futbol. It's not enough to have 11 good players, you need 23 of them. Italy's bench is just as good as their first team. Ghana cannot say the same.

Yes, the best thing that could happen to futbol this cup is for Ghana to beat Brazil, even if they do not go any further.

But you are right, the problem with small countries (and the Czechs are an example) is that you just cannot have a B-team. You are lucky even if you have an A team......

In 2002, I was very proud of the US team. I thought they play Germany as tough as they could have.

2006, I'm still a big fan, but disappointed. I think we had a much better team this time, but could only muster one great game (US-Italy).

Now I will be paying for a miracle. GO GHANA!!!!!!!

Francisco Daniel,

Why do you hate Brazil so much.

I thinkg Ghana's chances are compromized because Essien will not play. They need Appiah and Essien to have a chance to beat Brazil.

But who are you guys rooting for? Hate Spain, Brazil and Italy. Are you going for Argentina.

Now I do think Ghana is a big puzzle for Brazil. Brazil has never met an African team in a world Cup. The only recent experience is the Nigerian team beating Brazil in the semifinals in the 96 Atlanta games.
African teams make things complicated to South american teams. Look at Argentinas record against them.
